About Our House

Have you ever lived in a house that you struggle to love?  Well, that is me and our house right now.  My husband and I live in a 3 bedroom, one bathroom, 1100 sq. ft. house in a small town in a weird neighborhood in Virginia.  There are things that I love about this house (the floor plan) and things I hate about it (1940's rusting metal cabinets).  When we orginially bought the house it was easy to overlook it's lesser points (turquoise porcelain tub!, no central air) and focus on the positives (formal dining room space, good bedroom space and a bonus room of sorts).

Our plan was to live in the house for 3-5 years.  However, we bought our house at the height of the housing bubble 3 1/2 years ago, before the housing bubble burst.  So it looks like (although you never can really tell about these things) that there is a possibility we will be living in this house for longer than we planned.  And even if we do sell at some point, our house will need to be in good shape to compete with other houses on the market in order to get what we paid for it back.

In my heart I know how important it is to be content where you are and content not knowing the future.  (After all, half the fun of life is not always knowing where we're going!)  I also know that a house is just a house.  The feeling of home is made up of what goes on inside of it.  So instead of getting gloomy about possibly being stuck in a house for longer than planned or wary of the amount of work it's going to take to make our house really shine in order to sell it one day, I have a different plan.  This is my attempt to learn to love our little house by giving this little house some love.

Welcome to Our House Little!
